Ange Postecoglou delivers bitter Celtic injury update at Tannadice
Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that attacker Jota will be missing for “a few weeks” following an apparent hamstring injury suffered against Hearts.
Jota has been one of the real sparks in the Celtic attack this season and in recent weeks has been almost carrying the team.
However, he’ll now miss the majority of matches in December, as many as eight more on top of the trip to Tannadice today, where Mikey Johnston has filled in.
Postecoglou confirmed the bitter news in his pre-match interview live on Sky Sports Football. [11:55]
However, there was a silver lining to his comments, with the Australian stating that injuries to Anthony Ralston and Stephen Welsh didn’t look too serious.
That suggests they could return to contention soon, with Celtic playing at home to Real Betis on Thursday and Motherwell on Sunday.
So far Celtic have performed well without Jota. There’s been a real urgency and directness to the Bhoys play at Tannadice, which bodes well for the weeks ahead.
But it can’t be stressed enough that Jota has that touch of magic that can bail Celtic out when we aren’t playing particularly well.
Every supporter will be keeping their fingers crossed he is fit for the derby against Rangers on January 2nd, if not the Scottish League Cup final against Hibernian.
