Ange Postecoglou explains James Forrest Celtic contract extension after surprise announcement
Celtic winger James Forrest has signed a new contract that will keep him at the Bhoys until the summer of 2025, the club has announced.
The winger last signed a deal in 2019, which was due to keep him at Paradise until 2023.
Forrest is a one-club man, having emerged from the Celtic academy to go on and win 20 trophies in green and white.
Now, following this latest title success, he’s intending to push on again and get back to his best form.
Postecoglou “delighted” by Forrest contract extension
Manager Ange Postecoglou gave his reasons for the contract extension on the official club website, stating: “James is my kind of player and has that attacking intent that can open up defences to make goals, not only for himself, but for others as well.
“He’s been a great servant to the football club thanks to his brilliant quality and attributes, and those have made him a proven contributor to the club’s success – you only have to look at his medal collection to see that.
“I know we will get more of this from him next season and beyond, and I’m delighted that this deal has been finalised.”
Forrest has struggled to make a consistent impact at the Bhoys this term due to injury and fitness issues. However, clearly there’s a belief in the club that the worst of that is behind the 30-year-old.
He can still play a squad role moving forward even if he wouldn’t be considered as one of the first names on the teamsheet.
Even this season he has scored a couple of big goals, including in the Scottish League Cup semi-final and away to Livingston.
Here’s hoping Ange can find the Forrest who was once so devastating.
