Ange Postecoglou reckons Osaze Urhoghide’s best position at Celtic will probably be at centre-back, despite deploying him on the right flank yesterday.
Urhoghide was part of the team that took on Charlton Athletic at Dragon Park in Wales.
He was eager to impress, if a little rough around the edges, but that’s to be expected from a young player in pre-season after making a big move.
Postecoglou has hailed his desire to learn and improve. That’s a promising early sign he’ll get opportunities this season.
The Celtic boss told The Daily Record: “He is a good kid, he has got a great attitude, and he wants to learn. We played him at right-back today, and he is probably more of a centre back.
“But his intent and desire are there. You can see he’s a 100 per cent kind of player; he gives everything he can. He has got a lot to learn, but he wants to learn, and that’s the main thing.”
Composure will be key in Urhoghide’s best position
When Urhoghide signed from Sheffield Wednesday, my immediate concern was that he might be stuck in the kind of development wilderness that Luca Connell and Lee O’Connor have been.
However, I reckon he’ll at least be on the fringes of the first-team squad this season. He’s 21, so I don’t think it’d serve him well to head out on loan or anything.

It’s now all about finding that composure to become a Celtic player that we know senior players need, especially in defence.
If Postecoglou can add that to Urhoghide’s game and develop him technically within his tactical set-up, he has the attributes to be a winner at the Bhoys.
