Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou reckons his team are being underestimated, specifically with regards to the resilience and character they’ve shown throughout tough challenges this season.
Celtic overcame Hearts on Wednesday night despite multiple changes to the team and many people predicted dropped points.
One of the big talking points heading into the fixture was about the Jam Tarts’ victory over the Bhoys in the opening league game of the season.
However, Postecoglou feels people aren’t truly understanding what this group of players are made of.
Speaking to The Times after the win at Tynecastle, the Bhoys boss said: “It’s the one thing that is probably a little bit underestimated in this team, they are just a really resilient group of players. There were plenty of reasons for them to have excuses but I thought with the changes we had to make our football was still great.
“If you chart the course of this team from the first time we were here – which people keep mentioning – the amount of challenges we’ve had means we haven’t really had a smooth run to be honest. But I don’t mind because it builds resilience and reveals character.
“It doesn’t matter what team we throw out there the guys show that they are ready for it and they are enjoying and embracing the kind of team we want to be.”
Celtic really had to grit their teeth and dig in to grab the victory on Wednesday night. With players still getting up to full match fitness and key players missing, it’s a match we easily could have drawn.
There were no late slip-ups this time though, a testament to the progress made at the club since Postecoglou joined last summer.
The squad are now well placed for the challenges ahead, especially as it strengthens again over the coming weeks.
