Ange Postecoglou reacts as Celtic make yet another contract move

Greg Taylor has signed a new contract at Celtic that will keep him at the club until at least the summer of 2025, the club has announced on the official website today.

Taylor’s previous deal had been due to expire in 2023, so it’s a two-year extension on that agreement.

The former Kilmarnock defender has had an increased role in the Celtic side over the last year following Boli Bolingoli’s incident and subsequent loan abroad.

The left-back also extensively featured under manager Ange Postecoglou before injuring his shoulder earlier this season, which will take a bit of time to recover from, following surgery.

The Bhoys boss is pleased with the contract, telling the club website: “I am delighted that Greg has extended his contract with the Club. He has had an excellent start to the season and has made a really valuable contribution to the team.

“Unfortunately he has suffered the injury in recent weeks, but our focus and his, is now to get him back in the squad as soon as possible, have him pick up where he left off and playing at that same high level.

“I am really pleased he has committed his future to Celtic and I am sure he will be an important player for us over the next few years.”

Taylor has made 60 appearances in total for the club and is a viable squad option moving forward, even if some fans feel we need a new outright first-choice in the position.

He was undoubtedly improving under Postecoglou before his injury issue and having a Scotland international providing back-up at left-back is a good thing in my view.

Celtic also recently extended the contracts of Anthony Ralston and Callum McGregor, so appear to be in the midst of deciding the futures of a number of squad players.

It’ll be interesting to see who’s up next in that regard, as Postecoglou makes major decisions on his squad ahead of the January transfer window.
