Ange Postecoglou has ruled out a return to Celtic.

With uncertainty over whether Martin O’Neill will take the job full-time in the summer, the club are having to weigh up their options.

Postecoglou is an obvious favourite, given his immense popularity during his two-year spell at Celtic Park. However, he has revealed that it’s not to be.

On The Overlap, he said: “In terms of going back, I don’t go back. I don’t think that’s been my career.

“Whatever the next step is, it’ll be something new. Something I can make an impact in. Somewhere I can win things.”

Ange Postecoglou reflects on Celtic spell

He went on to say: “I loved Celtic, mate. If I was younger, I would’ve stayed there longer.

“I probably would’ve stayed there for three-four years. I think I could’ve made progress with them in Europe.

“But at the time, it had taken me a long time to get to this space – you know, the opportunity to join Tottenham was too good.

“But it doesn’t diminish the affection I had. It was a great experience, for two years, to be within a community that’s just so passionate… I mean, it’s crazy how passionate they are about their football club.

“Obviously, I was fortunate that we had success, so it’s a positive experience – but I loved every minute of it.

“I look back on it fondly, but I think it’s important with all these things that it’s one thing – I made a dumb decision when I joined Forest – but I won’t go back.

“I don’t think that’s how my career’s gone.”

That’s one name you can cross off your list – unlike Brendan Rodgers, Postecoglou won’t be returning to Glasgow for another crack at it.

Ange Postecoglou’s two years at Celtic

When Postecoglou took over from Neil Lennon, Celtic had just finished 25 points behind Rangers in a disastrous season behind closed doors.

He lost all of his first three away league matches and dropped down to the Europa League, but signings such as Kyogo Furuhashi, Jota and Josip Juranovic eventually led a new-look team to a League Cup win.

In the end, Celtic won the league against a Rangers team which had made the Europa League final. The season after, the best was yet to come.

Despite failing to get a win in the Champions League, the Celts steamrolled the league, and Postecoglou bowed out in his last game by delivering a treble.
