Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou is feeling grateful for all the support he’s received since arriving last summer.

Postecoglou walked into a high profile, pressurised situation with no backroom team and no allies to speak of before setting about the task of turning Celtic around.

He’s now shared the kind of support he’s received from club principal shareholder Dermot Desmond and former chief executive Peter Lawwell since arriving in Scotland.

The Bhoys boss told a press conference this afternoon [Celtic YouTube]: “I’ve been very fortunate since I’ve got this role. I’ve just felt totally supported from day one. It’s been really important for me to do what I need to do.

“I came in by myself. That can feel fairly isolating if you don’t get support straight away. The fans have been unbelievable towards me. The staff here, the players and the includes the management, the board and Dermot.

“Dermot rang me after we lost to Hearts on the first day and said, ‘Ange I can see what you’re trying to do. All I’ll say is that your first assessment will come at the end of the year, nothing will happen before then. Just keep doing what you’re doing.’

“I don’t need people to tell me that but I can’t do what I do without support. Michael Nicholson and people like Chris McKay and others are right behind me. The board are right behind me. I know he mentioned Peter Lawwell and he’s been really supportive since I got here.

“I know externally that didn’t always look the case because of who I was and people weren’t aware of who I was. They felt like I was unsteady in those early times. But at no point did I think that people are trying to second guess me here. It wouldn’t have worked if that had happened.”

This is a typically fantastic response from the manager and really gives us an insight into the unity at the club over the last 12 months.

A lot has been said about the board and how they’ve backed Ange. In fact, it was a point of contention for many last summer.

However, it’s now clear that Postecoglou has always been happy in his position at the club and has been given the tools necessary to bring us to this point.

Long may it continue!
