Ange Postecoglou looks to be on a shoogly peg at Tottenham this season.

The Celtic hero left Parkhead for Spurs in 2023 and started well enough in North London. This season, however, things have gone from bad to worse for the Australian.

Postecoglou’s Celtic trophy haul has not been enough to instill confidence in the Spurs hierarchy despite his second season claim when asked about silverware.

Postecoglou told his Spurs future is ‘in serious doubt’

And now it appears his future is in “serious doubt” with the Athletic reporting that he is under “intense scrutiny” with a replacement manager already lined up by Daniel Levy in the form of Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola.

Postecoglou has been told he could be sacked even if he reaches the Europa League Final this term after squeaking past AZ Alkmaar in the last-16.

It would be a brutal swinging of the axe should that transpire but the football at the club this season has been so far removed from what the Socceroo legend usually brings out of his teams.

The Athletic’s report claims the summer could spell the end for Ange no matter what happens between now and then.

It reads: “Postecoglou’s position at Spurs has been the subject of intense scrutiny with the club 14th in the Premier League table, having lost more than half of their league games this season (15 of 29).

“Tottenham are still focused on finishing the season strongly, especially with a Europa League quarter-final against Eintracht Frankfurt next month. But regardless of what happens over the next two months, there are question marks over Postecoglou’s long-term future.

“The 59-year-old will still have one year left on his Spurs contract this summer, with the option of a fourth, but his future is in serious doubt beyond this season.”

The big results that could cost Ange Postecoglou his Spurs job

vs Rangers (A) drew 1-1
vs Liverpool (H) lost 6-3
vs Leicester City (H) lost 2-1
vs AZ Alkmaar (A) lost 1-0
vs Fulham (A) lost 2-0

Ange has found it difficult this term with a number of injuries hampering his side’s chances.

He was told what was “deeply concerning” earlier this month after the Alkmaar first-leg which his side lost 1-0 in the Netherlands. They turned it around, 3-1, in England, but the optics weren’t great.

Gary Neville has backed Postecoglou this season with relief that he has not been binned.

But it looks like that is only a matter of time.
