Ange Postecoglou refused to be drawn on reports linking Celtic to Sead Haksabanovic, but did reiterate he is still looking for versatile players in the closing stages of the transfer window.

Haksabanovic is said to be close to a move to the Bhoys from Rubin Kazan, with some outlets even reporting he could undergo a medical in London within the next 24 hours.

However, when asked specifically about the attacker in his press conference today, Postecoglou didn’t confirm nor deny the speculation.

He told reporters [HomeBhoys]: “I think we’ve been linked with a player every time I’ve done one of these. If and when we announce it, we announce it. As I’ve said all along, we’re agile, we’re looking for the right person to bring in. If that right person is available and we can do a deal, we’ll do a deal, but nothing’s really changed on that front.

Then asked if he is specifically looking for an attacker, Postecoglou continued: “I’ve been pretty consistent, just check my press conferences. I’ve said if we can get a player who can play in a variety of positions, it’s just got to be the ideal player.

“Our recruitment this year has been around making our squad stronger and more robust compared to last year. If you look at the players we’ve brought in, that’s what they’ve added to our squad.

“It’s not a specific area, as such, in terms of position. It’s more that if we can find a player or a couple of players who can play more than one position, it’ll help us.”

Haksabanovic certainly ticks the boxes when it comes to versatility, able to play on the left and right flanks as well as through the middle.

Postecoglou was obviously coy on links to the 23-year-old specifically, but he didn’t entirely shut it down, which to me is about as much as you will ever get from the Celtic boss. Reading between the lines, it seems like a goer.

Obviously it’s not a done deal or the manager would have indicated it, so we await updates on a potential medical and if the financials of a move make sense for all parties.
