Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is still expecting Tom Rogic to jet off with the Australian national team for crucial World Cup qualifiers this month despite the midfielder hobbling off against Ross County.
Rogic was on the receiving end of a wild lunging tackle from County man Kayne Ramsay. The Celtic star tried to run it off but was eventually subbed for Matt O’Riley after half an hour.
Postecoglou clearly wasn’t wanting to take any risks with his creative talent.
67 Hail Hail were in attendance at the Bhoys boss’ press conference after the game and he was asked for an update on the player.
Postecoglou said: “Yeah, he’s not too bad. His ankle is a bit sore. I only saw him at half-time briefly and he didn’t feel it was too bad for him.
“He has to go away with the national team – he’s an important player for Australia. I haven’t seen him after the game but hopefully, it’s not too bad.
“The referee is closer than I am and he deemed it a red card. I don’t dwell too much on the challenge. For me, more important, I didn’t want Tommy to get a serious injury out of it so hopefully that’s okay.”
Australia have must-win matches against Japan and Saudi Arabia on the horizon, so they’ll be desperate to get Rogic called up with the group to assess his fitness. He’ll be vital if they are to make progress on that front.
For us, thankfully it sounds like he won’t be missing any Celtic matches with derbies coming up after the international break. We know the kind of magic he can produce in big games.
Fingers crossed he comes through the international break unscathed and right back into contention for the Bhoys.
