Arne Engels explains what he can offer to both Celtic and Belgium after exciting week

Arne Engels will have plenty to offer for both Celtic and Belgium after completing his move to Glasgow last week from Augsburg.

Arriving for a record £11 million fee, the 20-year-old made his debut last weekend against Rangers, and Brendan Rodgers believes there is plenty of growth to come from the Dendermonde-born man in green and white.

He stated: “Great for Arne Engels to come in; you just see his elegance on the pitch and for a young guy, he’s got huge potential. That’s why we brought him in. There’s lots of growth in all of the players.”

Before his move to Celtic was finalised, Engels earned a Belgium call-up and is set to take part in their Nations League double-header against Israel and France, potentially making his debut for the Red Devils.

Speaking ahead of the clashes, the former Club Brugge youth has given an insight into what he can offer club and country.

Per Gazet van Antwerpen, Engels has shed some light on the qualities he hopes to bring while on international duty, which will also offer an indication of where he sees himself excelling at Celtic.

He explained: “I am a player who can bring energy to the Red Devils. And the will to win. I am a real winner every day, even during mutual games in training. In addition, I have a nice passing and a good kicking technique, which can be useful in set pieces, if necessary.

“I am also very versatile: I pull my weight everywhere, but I prefer to play in midfield. Oh well, I am mainly here to learn. I want to deliver quality. To show that I am worth being here.”

Expectation surrounding Engels’ capabilities are high, which comes as a result of his expensive price tag. However, he will be given plenty of time to settle into Glasgow life.

Furthermore, Paulo Bernardo’s recent Celtic form alongside Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate’s consistency means there is no reason to worry. The Bhoys engine room is in good hands, so it will be exciting to see Engels and Luke McCowan add to that.

Encouragingly, the options available to Rodgers in the middle of the park appear to be highly adaptable, which can only bode well as he looks to find his best midfield combination.
