Arne Engels has pledged to repay his record £11 million fee back to Celtic after joining the club on a four-year deal from Augsburg on deadline day.

The Belgium international made his debut against Rangers earlier this month and has since won his first cap for The Red Devils at senior level, capping a productive couple of weeks from a personal standpoint.

Engels has arrived with a lot of pressure on his shoulders following his big-money move from the Bundesliga. Celtic’s engine room is loaded with talent, but he will surely relish the challenge to beat off competition for a place in the side.

Brendan Rodgers has also pointed out his ability to play in a number of different positions’ as a key selling point behind the hefty transfer, so there is also potential to see him thrown in elsewhere.

Arne Engels’ pledge at Celtic

Per Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on X, Engels has vowed to repay the faith shown by Celtic in his abilities and believes he will have no problem integrating into the current set-up.

He stated: “I think it’s a really big club; I think it’s the biggest club in Scotland. They play every time for the championship, and for the cups and everything, so I think it’s obvious that it’s a step forward for me

“Also, with the new format of the Champions League, I think it can be really amazing and special for us. They obviously paid a big amount for me, and I want to return a lot for the club. I just want to be (on) my best form here and just perform like I always do, that’s why they did it so it’s just for me to adapt now quickly to the situation, to the team.”

“It’s an amazing team, so everybody is speaking (to me) really well, is teaching me a lot, so I think it’s going to be easy to integrate and to perform.”

Echoing supporters’ excitement, Engels appears to be relishing the prospect of playing in the Champions League for Celtic.

Arguably, that is what he was brought to the club for, with pressure on the Bhoys to succeed in the competition after some false starts in recent years.

Hopefully, Engels can be ready to contribute over the coming months as Celtic set their stall out to fight on all fronts. Optimism over his signing is high among the fanbase, it is over to him to deliver.
