Celtic midfielder Arne Engels has been spotted back in training ahead of this weekend’s clash against Motherwell.

Engels has been out of action since February when he had to be substituted in the win against Livingston due to a thigh problem.

It was estimated that Celtic’s most expensive signing would be out until March, and it seems that the Belgian is on track to return sooner rather than later.

Pictures shared by the Celtic social media team of the side in training at Lennoxtown featured images of Engels back on the grass as he continues his rehabilitation.

It comes at a time when the Hoops could be without Callum McGregor for an extended period while he recovers from an achilles injury.

Reo Hatate dominated the midfield at Ibrox in a deeper role and seemed comfortable there, but could share the weight of the role once Engels returns.

It is unlikely he will feature in the clash against Motherwell but may be ready to come back into contention for the game against Dundee United, the final one before the international break.

He is the only player who has been out that is back in action, with others like Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota and Alistair Johnston all still recovering elsewhere.
