Kyogo Furuhashi hasn’t had the best of times since leaving Celtic but now, he embarks on a new adventure at Birmingham City.

The Japanese striker was adored by the Parkhead support as Kyogo’s goals helped deliver seven trophies out of nine over three years for Celtic.

However, when Kyogo left Celtic for Rennes, his career stalled as the 30-year-old struggled to break into the Ligue 1 side’s first-team.

Now at Birmingham City, Celtic hero Peter Grant has shared what he’s heard about Kyogo at the Championship club after the Japanese striker was benched for City’s pre-season friendly against Nottingham Forest.

Birmingham City are already ‘asking questions’ of Celtic hero Kyogo

Kyogo will be hoping to put his Rennes nightmare behind him and kick-start his career at Birmingham this season.

However, it appears that all may not be going well after what Grant is hearing about the Hoops icon.

Grant told The Go Radio Football Show, “Listen, Kyogo did exceptionally well [at Celtic], there’s no doubt in that.

“But you can always sense, you know, is there something else is going on? And I think you look at when he went away from Celtic, even at Birmingham, they’re a wee bit critical of him at this moment in time.

“I think for a while now, he’s been carrying this shoulder [injury]. And I’m not sure if he’s ever got it fixed. I don’t know if he has, maybe I’m wrong here.

“And ever since then, I felt he struggled a little bit with that. And I think that’s been a problem for him. But they’re asking questions about him at Birmingham at this moment in time.

“So maybe Celtic got it right at that particular time.”

What former Celtic midfielder Tomoki Iwata told Kyogo about moving to Birmingham

Kyogo admitted he was encouraged to sign for Birmingham by former Celtic teammate Tomoki Iwata.

After penning his deal at the English club Kyogo said, “I was happy because I received many good offers, but I decided Birmingham City’s was the best for me.

“Tomoki Iwata contacted me and told me he’d be really happy if I joined him at Birmingham. I listened to what he had to say about the club and I got really excited about hearing about their ambitions.

“I’m looking forward to working with Iwata again and I hope I can help the team achieve their goals this season.”

Hopefully, this is just a blip and Kyogo is still in his settling in period at the club. Every Celtic fan would love to see him do well and showcase his clinical goalscoring ability that helped bring domestic success to the east end of Glasgow.
