The signing of former Aston Villa goalkeeper, Viljami Sinisalo by Celtic yesterday ended what felt like a long summer of transfer inactivity by the club.
The 22-year-old keeper has flown out to Celtic’s USA Summer Tour where the fans will hopefully get to see their new recruit in action for the first time.
With games against Manchester City, Chelsea and DC United to come, Sinisalo is a stick on to make his debut for the club.
However, as the signing was met with joy by the Celtic fans, it seems that the Aston Villa supporters have a different take after the club announced the departure of the Finland international on social media yesterday.
Aston Villa told they have made a mistake selling Sinisalo to Celtic
The young goalkeeper had a brilliant season on loan at Exeter City and really impressed his temporary gaffer, former Celtic defender Gary Caldwell.
But despite not making a single first-team appearance for The Villans, their fans don’t seem too pleased about letting such a young prospect leave for a bargain fee.
Another Villa fan branded the sale of Sinisalo as ‘mental’, “Weird one, so much promise coming off the back of last season. Much better option to have around than Olsen. Mental decision.”
Another was hoping that Sinisalo’s move to Paradise was a temporary one:
Another Aston Villa fan was ‘gutted’, “I’m gutted followed him through the academy. Good Luck Vil at Celtic we know you’ll be great once a Villan always a Villan.“, whilst another simply said, “Mistake!“

So it seems that whilst Sinisalo has been wished a lot of luck for his future by the Villa fans, there are plenty out there who believe that their club has made a mistake by letting him leave and join Celtic.
With Kasper Schmeichel also looking like he is set to join Celtic this week, it seems that Sinisalo has been brought in as one for the future and to learn from the experienced Denmark international.
One thing is for sure, the reaction to the youngster joining Celtic by the Aston Villa fans tells you that Brendan Rodgers has pulled off a good signing and he could be a star for the future.
