Celtic are reportedly closing in on what could be a second goalkeeper capture this window once they ratify a deal for veteran stopper Kasper Schmeichel.

The 37-year-old is set for a medical this week ahead of replacing Joe Hart between the sticks at Parkhead on a one-year deal with the option for an extra 12 months in Glasgow.

Following a spell at Anderlecht, he prioritised a move to the Bhoys over extending his time in Belgium. In addition, there were also offers from Saudi Arabia that Schmeichel turned down in favour of reuniting with Brendan Rodgers.

On the face of it, he won’t be a long-term signing at the club, but having the Denmark international’s experience in the building will be vital for the time he is here.

Now, a succession plan could already be in place following reports that Celtic are closing in on another goalkeeping signing.

Celtic reportedly closing in on Viljami Sinisalo

According to The Sun, Celtic are ‘closing in’ on a deal to sign Aston Villa stopper Viljami Sinisalo in addition to Schmeichel.

The outlet claim that talks are underway over a permanent deal as the Bhoys look to sort out a fee for the Finland international, who starred for Exeter City on loan in League 1 last campaign.

Per Transfermarkt, the 22-year-old made 50 appearances for the Devon-based outfit, recording 14 clean sheets in total.

He also maintained a save percentage rate of 70.3% in Sky Bet League One and has been on Celtic’s radar as far back as 2021, where 67 Hail Hail first reported interest in his services before the Aston Villa man moved to the West Midlands.

Planning for the long term seems to be the order of the day regarding the goalkeeper situation. Schmeichel is being brought in for the immediate term; however, if Sinisalo arrives, he may inherit the jersey for the future while learning alongside an established Premier League winner.

Either way, lets hope both deals can get done. Competence between the sticks is crucial for Celtic, and having two great options to pick from would be fantastic for Rodgers.
