Auston Trusty exposes Alex Rae’s Celtic vs Rangers 2024 Premier Sports Cup final pain

Celtic defender Auston Trusty’s challenge on Rangers’ Jack Butland has certainly caused a bit of a stir over the last two weeks.

Despite Celtic beating Rangers fair and square in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final earlier this month, the meltdown over Trusty’s ‘red card’ challenge is still going on.

Rangers are still demanding answers from the SFA despite the national association’s Head of Referees Willie Collum saying the decision to yellow card the Celtic defender was correct.

And as the Ibrox hysteria continues, what Trusty has also clearly done is that he’s exposed Alex Rae’s pain over last season’s Premier Sports Cup final where Celtic beat Rangers on penalties to lift the trophy.

Alex Rae is still crying about Celtic winning the Premier Sports Cup after Trusty Rangers row

Rae told PLZ Soccer, “It’s really interesting because I have a vested thing here in terms of the process.

“If they’re [Rangers] not happy with the way the process works, and so what I mean is, how the VAR guys are communicating and things like that could be better put in place.

“We did this when it was the [Vaclav] Cherney pull in the thing [Celtic penalty box]. So we’ve got a monitor like this. You hit it and you go that’s in the box.

“So we had Colin Stewart and myself, he went to see the fourth official, I went to see the fifth official. He says ‘You do need to look at this. This is clearly [a penalty]’.

Martin O’Neill won’t appoint new Celtic manager

“And we’re looking at a monitor which is an iPad, smaller than your laptop there, and we both said this at the time, ‘You’ve got to have a look’.

“Maybe after 20, 30 seconds time we get down and went to the both officials and said it’s clearly inside the box. And both said it’s been cleared and checked.

“So we felt, at that particular time, that the process had not been followed. And you’ve seen it in subsequent games that there’s a process.

“I think there has to be clear lines of communication for how you go about all this.”
