Auston Trusty has written his name into United States World Cup history and the Celtic defender’s reaction afterwards showed why it meant so much.
Trusty fulfilled a childhood dream by scoring his first senior international goal during the USA’s 3-2 defeat to Turkey, a result that still saw Mauricio Pochettino’s side finish top of Group D.
His strike came after just 134 seconds, making it the second-fastest World Cup goal in United States men’s national team history and taking the 26-year-old into his country’s record books.

It was Trusty’s first World Cup start and his first senior goal for the USA, yet he marked both occasions with a finish only Clint Dempsey has bettered for speed at a World Cup.
The USA also completed their best-ever World Cup group campaign with six points and will now face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32.
Trusty will never forget his goal, even if the result against Turkey took some shine off the night.

After the match, Trusty sent a message on social media as the Celtic star confessed he has now fulfilled a childhood ambition.
He wrote: “As a kid, you dream of scoring in a World Cup. That dream finally became a reality.
“The result wasn’t what we wanted, but we’re through as group winners and moving full steam ahead into the knockout rounds.
“Thank you to everyone for the incredible support. We feel it every step of the way.”
Trusty went to this World Cup trying to nail down his place in the USA side. He now goes into the knockout rounds with his name in his country’s record books, giving Celtic another reason to keep watching.
