Read More"Badly needed"; Ange lauds impact of new Celtic staff member at Lennoxtown, more coming
Ange Postecoglou has been talking up the impact of the new Celtic head of sports science Anton McElhone.
McElhone joined the club last month having most recently served as an assistant manager at Greenock Morton.
However, he has a long, distinguished career as a sports science expert behind him including a stint in Major League Soccer and at Tottenham Hotspur.
And Postecoglou couldn’t be happier to have him on board.
Speaking after yesterday’s win over Motherwell, the Celtic boss told The Daily Record: “We added Anton McElhone to our sports science department which has been fantastic. The support he has given to the medical and sports science department has been badly needed.
“So having Anton in has been brilliant and now we are looking at other areas, especially around scouting and recruiting.
Ange’s Celtic turned a corner in impressive Motherwell win
“We need people in there with the right expertise and who are the right fit for the club. We are planning towards that. We are not rushing to decisions because these people will be crucial to what we are trying to build.”
These are positive comments on the manager.
The way that Celtic are playing these days requires supreme fitness and endurance. The presence of someone like McElhone will only help that, especially because there had been an absence over the summer months following Jack Nayler’s departure to RB Leipzig.
Ange seems to know exactly what is required at Lennoxtown to push the Bhoys forward and I fully trust he’ll add the staff he thinks can make an impact.
With results on the pitch also turning around, this could be an exciting few months for Celtic supporters.
