Barry Douglas comments on Leeds situation amid Celtic speculation

Reported Celtic target Barry Douglas admits it can be “frustrating” to not feature regularly at Leeds United.

The one-time Scotland cap was part of the Yorkshire side’s Championship winning squad last season.

However, Douglas only made 15 league appearances for Leeds over the course of the COVID impacted campaign.

Last month, Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph claimed Douglas was “high up” on Celtic’s shortlist as cover for Boli Bolingoli – who’s Parkhead career looks to be over.

Nothing seems to have materialised between Douglas and Celtic yet, but the 30-year-old has been talking about his lack of playing time at his current employers.

“The manager makes the decisions at the end of the day,” the Premier League defender told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“I need to live by that. It can be frustrating at times but it’s a team game and it’s not all about me.

“I just need to be ready when I get the opportunity and I think I showed I was ready [last season] and helped the team when I could.

“It was nice to contribute but ultimately I want to play more like every player, so it’s going to be challenging ahead for everyone to be on their toes and be at their best.”

We need a left-back, and quickly

Douglas does seem pretty committed to Leeds, going by those comments, but it would be interesting to see if he could be swayed by some interest north of the border.

We definitely need to recruit a left-back as Greg Taylor is now the only viable option in the position.

If the former Kilmarnock man was to pick up an injury in the coming weeks then we would be in a real pickle with crucial European and domestic games on the horizon.

The Celtic board have acted positively so far this summer, but they really need to get a left-back in and soon.

Hopefully there is some movement on that front over the next week or so.
