Barry Ferguson has had his say on Vaclav Cerny’s “celebrations” vs Celtic last weekend.
Cerny sprayed Celtic fans with water in what was a pathetic moment of immaturity as he reacted to Hamza Igamane’s winner as Rangers defeated Celts 3-2 in the most recent Glasgow derby.
The Czech wide player now faces a ban while Police Scotland were forced to intervene.
Cerny was branded “pathetic and infantile” by former referees for his actions and he could now face further punishment, but Gers interim head coach Barry Ferguson has – would you believe it – leapt to his defence in his press conference this afternoon.

Barry Ferguson had a predictable assessment of Cerny vs Celtic
Ferguson believes his team were right to celebrate their Celtic win and that the overexuberant Cerny simply got “excited” and that he should seemingly be exonerated for the incident.
“The reaction was…he is excited, because his teammate has just scored what was to be the winning goal,” Ferguson claimed.
“I would have a problem if my staff and my players sat in their seat and never said a word, or done anything.
“I want to see players and staff celebrate. Why do we play football? We play football to win games. And when you win games, I want to see my players and my staff celebrate alongside our supporters.
“Sometimes you get a bit overexcited, I have no issues with that. As I said, Vash was just overexcited with his teammate Hamza scoring a goal to get us three points where we have been unable to for five years, which is a long, long time.”
What ex-Premier League star said about Cerny Celtic fan incident
Ferguson’s response is as predictable as it is pathetic as the rookie boss is usually one to call for respect during the derby.
But that goes both ways, Baz.
It was a sign, at least, that the rivalry is still alive and well despite talkSPORT pundit and former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy not understanding the Celtic/Rangers mutual hatred.
He said last week: “Isn’t it mad though how far we’ve come, the world has come. It is crazy. 20 years ago this would never even have been mentioned. A little bit of water? I get it, it’s a big game and you want people to behave. Especially with the size of that one in Scotland.
“But I think generally most people would say, ‘Oh he’s gone a bit far, it’s not the end of the world, let’s move on’.”
