Barry Ferguson baffled by criticism of ‘big player’ at Celtic who Ange Postecoglou signed

Celtic have set the bar pretty high this season as Brendan Rodgers pushes for a Treble.

Since the turn of the year, the performances have been a little iffy, including that Ibrox horror show and the defence hasn’t been up to standard either.

By the end of it all, Celtic will still win the title, not forgetting that they already have a League Cup in hand, but that’s what happens when you reach such high, high levels.

Rodgers has been rotating his XI in recent weeks because of injuries, illness and just to keep his key players fresh ahead of some big games.

With Nicolas Kuhn and Daizen Maeda being absent from recent starting XIs, it has meant a change in tact from the manager, including a new role for Kyogo Furuahshi.

But, from an unlikely source, Kyogo’s performances this season – he has ten league goals from 22 matches – as a whole have been defended.

Barry Ferguson lauds Kyogo Furuhashi as a ‘big player’ for Celtic

Ange Postecoglou signed Kyogo and the Celtic fans are forever grateful because he has gone on to do many great things for the club.

But it’s fair to say that he hasn’t reached the same levels for Rodgers as he did for Ange and some have been critical of the forward.

But Barry Ferguson defended Kyogo and stated that he has been a ‘big player’ ever since he joined the club in 2021 and that will never go away, as he told Go Radio.

“It just baffles me, at times, didn’t score and missed a few chances,” said Ferguson. “I think it was the chance up at Dundee United and he comes in for a bit of criticism.

“He has just had a slight off period. You have seen his movement and his goal up at Ross County. He is a very good forward player. He is a goalscorer. He is at an age now, I don’t know how long he has left in his contract, he will be looking to extend that or go elsewhere. I would imagine this will be his last big one.

“But, listen, he is still a quality player. You don’t lose it overnight. He is a hard worker and he has been a big player for Celtic since he signed.”

Kyogo’s record at Celtic

Celtic have been blessed to have some powerful, high-quality and real characters play for them, from Billy McNeill to Callum McGregor.

Henrik Larsson is the king at Celtic, but who is the next best? There are those who argue that it is Kyogo himself.

One thing is for sure, he has the trophies to back it up, but he also has the goals and he is getting ever closer to reaching a huge milestone.
