Martin Keown blasts ‘bitter’ Rangers fans with Celtic truth bombs after Ibrox controversy

It’s been night and day between Celtic and Rangers for over a decade now.

The table doesn’t lie and Celtic’s healthy lead at the top of the table is going to result in one thing and one thing only, the Premiership title remaining where it belongs and that’s at Parkhead.

Whilst Brendan Rodgers has a cigar in his mouth and will soon add another winner’s medal to his name, those at Ibrox are fed up with their manager, Philippe Clement.

The Rangers boss pulled a rabbit out of the hat after the New Year when he claimed his first win over Celtic.

But, since then, normal service has resumed, as Rangers have continued to drop points and it has forced their home fans to act, including a staged walkout during their win against St Johnstone over the weekend.

That split opinion and caused controversy because, some Rangers fans prefer their supporters to back their team, whilst others feel the need to voice their disapproval at how mediocre they are, on and off the field.

But whilst all that happens, Martin Keown dropped some simple Celtic truth bombs to those across Glasgow.

Martin Keown says Rangers fans are ‘bitter’ about being second to Celtic

Keown has played in the biggest games of his career, so he understands the pressure of playing on such an enormous stage and Glasgow is certainly right up there.

But the former England centre-back feels that Rangers fans are simply ‘bitter’ at the fact that they are second-best to the champions of Scotland.

In a discussion with Jim White on talkSPORT (13/01/25 at 11:45 am), Keown told the Gers to simply back their team and ‘draw a line’ under their recent actions.

“I put this to you Jim (White), is this not just a bitterness from the Rangers fans,” said Keown. White then responded: “A bitterness?”

Keown then continued: “A bitterness for being second-best right now because they are second-best.”

White then added: “Of course, they are second-best and they are bitter about it. Of course and they want the board to do something about it.”

Keown then stated: “That’s the reality. Isn’t it best to just get behind the club?” White then argued: “Their argument is they can get behind the club, but the players and the team isn’t good enough.”

Keown added: “Right now, they have had their walkout. Okay, draw a line under that.”

How many trophies has Brendan Rodgers won at Celtic?

One man who has seen through many Rangers managers as he has won trophies in Scotland is Rodgers.

The Northern Irishman returned to Celtic during the summer of 2023 after his controversial call to leave for Leicester City in 2019.

Rodgers has won three trophies since returning and those dark clouds regarding his exit for Leicester have now blown away, as he is on course to win another Treble, after achieving that feat in his first spell.

In total, Rodgers has won ten trophies as a Celtic manager.
