BBC journalist gives update on Arsenal pursuit of Kieran Tierney

Arsenal are still keen on signing Kieran Tierney this summer, according to BBC journalist David Ornstein.

The Gunners’ move for the left-back seems to have gone quiet in recent days but that often means that something is being prepared. But with the English Premier League window closing on Thursday evening, Unai Emery will have to move quickly to get his man.

Ornstein, who is understood to have good connections down at the north London club, says that there is still an interest in the Scotland full-back despite his recent injury troubles.

It would be frustrating if Arsenal got Tierney now

Tierney hasn’t played for Celtic since limping off in the victory over Aberdeen in May. The 22-year-old has since gone under the knife and still seems to be a fair bit away from making his return to first-team action.

But will that return be in the red of Arsenal or the green of Celtic? Well, as time ticks down it does seem more likely that he’ll be staying put.

It would be a bitter blow to lose Tierney so late in the English window. We’ve managed to hold off all summer, rejecting a couple of bids from Arsenal, and it finally seems like he may play another season for us. For that not to be the case would be hugely frustrating.

However, if Arsenal finally agree to pay his asking price then there’s little we can really do other than accept it. £25million would be a good deal for Tierney and, presuming we spent money on a replacement, you couldn’t really criticise the board.

Not long to go now. We’ll soon know the answer to the longest saga of the summer.
