BBC man puts Neil Critchley straight on Celtic’s win vs Hearts

Celtic kept their 13-point lead at the top of the league intact with a convincing win against Hearts.

The capital club came to Celtic Park having won their last two Scottish Premiership fixtures but faced a Brendan Rodgers side itching to put right the wrongs of the Glasgow Derby defeat to Rangers.

Hearts started against Celtic but after Daizen Maeda’s 17th-minute opener there was really only going to be one winner.

Neil Critchley’s post-match Celtic comments were a little bit confusing after the Hearts boss claimed the Hoops ‘never really hurt’ his team.

That wasn’t the view of BBC pundit Allan Preston, who was on co-commentary inside Parkhead.

Neil Critchley told he should be ‘thankful’ Celtic only scored three vs Hearts

Preston told The Scottish Football Podcast, “Today was always going to be difficult. They’ve not got, although they won here last year, it’s not been great over many, many years that Celtic come in here, and they’ve got to get the first goal.

“They had the chance for Nielsen, really good save in the first 15, and then after that it was all Celtic, and I think Neil Critchley would be quite thankful that he got out with only three because it could have been more.

“It really could have.

“Celtic missed chances in that first half and some in the second. They weren’t as clinical, but they deserve three points, and Hearts have got to lick their wounds and go back and try and beat Dundee United next Sunday.”

When can Celtic fans plan another title party?

The original date Celtic could have won the title was against St Johnstone next weekend. However, the defeat to Rangers put paid to that.

If Celtic wins at McDiarmid Park next weekend, then the title can be wrapped up against Derek McInnes’ Kilmarnock at Parkhead on the 12th of April.

Struggling at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership table, Kilmarnock should pose no threat to another title party at Celtic Park in a day that should be a great spectacle in front of 60,000 Hoops supporters.
