Celtic currently has a commanding 16-point lead over Rangers with nine Scottish Premiership games of the season left.

Celtic’s win at St Mirren opened up the gap at the top of the table to 16 points after Rangers’ lost to Motherwell St Mirren at Ibrox, meaning Brendan Rodgers can win the league before the Scottish Premiership’s top-six split.

The Celtic manager took a huge step closer to defending his title, and the Hoops supporters are now looking forward to yet another Trophy Day at the end of the season.

So with that in mind, 67 Hail Hail looks at two different permutations to determine the earliest date Celtic can win the league this season.

Can Celtic win the league if they beat Rangers in the next Glasgow Derby?

In a word, no. If Celtic beats Rangers in the next Glasgow Derby, the lead at the top of the table would stretch to 19 points.

With eight games to go and a 19-point gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, that would mean that there are still 24 points up for grabs for both teams to play for.

Whilst it would make the next Glasgow Derby a memorable day for the Celtic supporters, unfortunately, a title-winning day cannot happen on the 16th of March.

When Celtic can win the league by beating Rangers and both clubs win their remaining games

That takes us on to our next permutation. If Celtic beat Rangers in the next derby and both clubs win their scheduled remaining fixtures, can Rodgers still win the league before the split?

Yes. Beating Rangers in March would increase the gap to 19 points. There are two further games to play before the league splits.

If Celtic beat Hearts and St Johnstone, in that event, the league can be won at McDiarmid Park on the 6th of April due to the Hoops’ superior goal difference,
