Celtic progressed into the next round of the Scottish Cup with a 2-1 win over Kilmarnock.

Goals from Callum McGregor and Daizen Maeda booked Brendan Rodgers’ team into the fifth round after Kilmarnock lost at Celtic Park but there was controversy surrounding one of the Bhoys’ goals.

Derek McInnes had a moan about Celtic’s winning goal when he claimed that one of his players was fouled in the build-up to it.

But there was also an incident where Kilmarnock’s goal could have been chalked off for a handball but those calls were waved away much to the bemusement of Celtic’s players.

The goal was ruled a legitimate strike and BBC’s Jonathan Sutherland explains alongside Peter Grant and Steven Naismith exactly why Bobby Wales’ Kilmarnock equaliser against Celtic stood.

BBC man explains why Kilmarnock’s ‘handball’ goal vs Celtic stood

Grant told BBC Sportscene, “Well, Celtic is in a good position. You have midfield back in front of your defenders because you’re always saying get in line of the ball, it’s just back forward and the midfield has gone back in.

“They miss the tackle there? Kilmarnock could probably look for a free kick, but Murray’s very positive here. Does very well. He’s played very well so far. Good ball in, they get a bit fortunate at the front post, but to be fair, I agree.

“I think if it’s against me, I’d be disappointed if I never got the goal, the ball’s bounced up, Robbie Deas’ hand’s not come out to the ball.”

Naismith: “Yeah, and it’s not directly gone in the goal.”

Sutherland: “Exactly and that’s the key part of the rule and Bobby Wales gets the goal there.”

Celtic’s possible opponents in the next round of Scottish Cup

Celtic will look to defend the Scottish Cup with the draw taking place tonight after the Dundee Derby at around 10pm.

There are 15 teams Celtic could be drawn against so here is the full list of teams who are all in the hat with the Parkhead club.

Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers, will be keen on another home draw and look to make the quarter-finals of the tournament that he has never lost in both spells as the Hoops boss.
