Celtic’s domination of Scottish football both on and off the park seems to be looked upon enviously by Rangers.

Celtic are heading towards their fourth title in a row under Brendan Rodgers and the Hoops gaffer is also closing in on another treble.

Off the park, Celtic are a financial powerhouse as the Parkhead club’s earnings outstrip any other Scottish club including Rangers.

So when the Ibrox club sacked Philippe Clement on Sunday night, BBC man Tom English shared what the people at Rangers are saying privately about Celtic.

Tom English says ‘Rangers want to be like Celtic’

English told Football Daily, “Well, look, the bottom line, and I’m definitely not going to any pubs around Ibrox when I say this, the truth of this and senior figures at Rangers will tell you this quietly, Rangers want to be like Celtic.

“They want to have the same business model, the same player trading model, the same age profile, the same ambition as Celtic.

“That’s exactly what they’re striving for. Never in a month of Sundays will they say that publicly, but that’s what they want to be.

“They want to be the team from the other side of the city.”

What Rangers have previously said about Celtic’s financial power

Indeed, this isn’t the first time people at Rangers have admitted Celtic jealousy.

English revealed back in July what someone at the Ibrox club told him about trying to go toe to toe with the Parkhead club off the park and it seems that reality has set in over in the south side of Glasgow.

English said at the time, “It’s got to be highly debatable whether they’re going to see that quality or as much quality as they want to see because Rangers don’t have the money for it.

“I mean, I spoke to somebody at Rangers recently and they were saying that look, they cannot go toe to toe financially with Celtic.

“They just can’t do it. It doesn’t make any physical sense and they could get themselves into a world of trouble again if they do that.”

Celtic have plenty of cash in the bank as Rodgers continues the Parkhead club’s domination of Scottish football.

With the current disarray over at Ibrox now is the perfect time for the Celtic manager to push on and win the title and take another huge step towards a treble.
