BBC pundit rejects bizarre take on Celtic’s Champions League form and League Cup win

Celtic fans have enjoyed a tremendous start to the season as Brendan Rodgers’ side remains unbeaten domestically heading into a hectic Christmas schedule.

Even after Celtic drew with Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership, Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers still holds a healthy nine-point lead at the top of the table.

The Celtic gaffer also has the Leauge Cup in the bag after the Bhoys beat Rangers at Hampden last weekend.

And to top off a great start to the season, Celtic are progressing well in the Champions League needing just a positive result against either Young Boys or Aston Villa to get out of the league phase.

Which makes BBC man’s Alasdair Lamont’s comment on Celtic’s last three draws really bizarre.

BBC man puts negative spin on Celtic’s storming start to the season

After Dundee United, Celtic have drawn against Rangers in the League Cup final over 120 minutes and with Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League when Lamont suggested that the Hoops’ third draw in a row would be a ‘concern’ for Brendan Rodgers.

Loy said on the Scottish Football Podcast, “No, I don’t think so. I think when you put those results, those three draws into context, an away draw in the Champions League, when was the last time you could see a Celtic side come away from an away game in the Champions League and thought we should have won?

“You know, it’s a good point, it’s on the board, and I think they’ll get the job done at home to Young Boys.

“They lifted a trophy at the end of that second draw after the 120 minutes.

“I don’t think Brendan Rodgers and Celtic, whilst they would have liked the three points, I don’t think they’ll be too distracted or disappointed that they come away with a point.”

Celtic’s next three fixtures can shape the Scottish Premiership season

Celtic next three fixtures could shape how the rest of Rodgers’s season is going to go in the Scottish Premiership.

If Rodgers can successfully negotiate three wins from three, at the very least, come the New Year, Celtic will have a 12-point gap at the top of the table which would effectively end Rangers’ supposed challenge.

The pressure is on the Ibrox club to win their two fixtures away to St Mirren and Motherwell before Celtic come calling as Clement cannot afford another negative result before the big Glasgow Derby.
