BBC pundit sounds bitter as broadcaster’s own stat vs Aberdeen makes Celtic rant look silly

Celtic comfortably beat Aberdeen despite not being at their best.

The Bhoys scored five against The Dons in a game where Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers got his team back to winning ways after the weekend defeat to Hibs.

Celtic fans will be the first to admit that their heroes were not at their best but to score five past an Aberdeen side who were on a good run of form in third place in the league is still a very good result.

Which makes BBC pundit Willie Miller’s moan about Celtic sound a little bit bitter.

Willie Miller’s strange moan about Celtic’s passing vs Aberdeen

Speaking post-match, Miller was clearly hurting as he focused his attention on the Hoops’ passing after he watched his team suffer inside Celtic Park.

Miller told The Scottish Football Podcast [34m], “I didn’t feel at times, yes, Celtic strung some passes together, but other times they gave it away too easily and Aberdeen certainly gave it away too easily.

“So the quality of the game wasn’t up there. And when you’re measuring Celtic, the standard that they’ve set is such a high standard as well.

“And even though it’s 5-1 and I find myself saying this and really questioning what I’m actually saying, but it’s true. It’s true. I don’t think the passing was particularly good from Celtic tonight.

“It wasn’t at the standard that I was expecting them to play, but they cantered through the game. And as far as Aberdeen concerned, they’re just defensively naïve.”

The BBC Celtic stat that makes Willie Miller look bitter

Miller is generally a fair pundit in the game, but obviously watching his Aberdeen team get beat from a Celtic side which never left second gear is a sore one to take.

But to focus a large proportion of his comments on Celtic’s passing looks a bit daft now after the BBC’s own stats proved him completely wrong.

• Backward passes: 127
• Passing accuracy: 89.9%

If only someone on the BBC panel directed Miller to their own website then maybe he would have had a rethink of those comments.
