Pat Bonner reacted to Hyeongyu Oh’s unique way of warming up for Celtic games, as he proved again on Boxing Day against Dundee.

Celtic romped to a 3-0 win, thanks to two late goals from super sub Mikey Johnston, with Paulo Bernardo opening the scoring in what was a dominant display.

Hyeongyu Oh came off the bench for Celtic, but struggled to showcase confidence by getting on the scoresheet – that was touched upon by Chris Sutton.

But in the warm-up, the 22-year-old practised barefoot on the Dundee pitch, as well as deciding to use a smaller ball.

In the build-up to yesterday’s game, this was touched upon and recognised by Pat Bonner who expressed his ‘real surprise’, as he told BBC Sportsound (26/12/23 at 2:25 pm).

The BBC pundit thinks it’s a routine that stems from days before he joined Celtic, but questioned why it’s not helping him out on the pitch.

Hyeongyu Oh’s warm-ups for Celtic

“I am sort of wondering because if that translated into him on the pitch during the game and he is putting the ball in the back of the net,” said Bonner.

“Doing something unbelievable, then I would say ‘umm, there must be something in that.

“But when you don’t see the results when he is on the pitch and you are wondering, what’s this all about? He must have done this before he came to Celtic Park. It’s probably part of his habits and routine.

“What took us by real surprise is when he came onto the pitch with no football boots on and he was in his bare feet. That might be a cultural thing, I don’t know. He was running up and down the sidelines. I am telling you, it’s cold out there!”

Hyeongyu Oh’s time to shine for Rangers

There is no denying that the South Korean star is looking for lift-off in his Celtic career and perhaps it might come at the weekend.

Rangers are closing the gap at the top, they have games in hand, but a defeat in the derby, then it will push them back.

Just imagine the confidence and boost he would get if he scores, and even possibly the winner.

Here’s hoping every one of Celtic’s forward line gets on the scoresheet, especially Kyogo because Rangers are his favourite opponent.
