Hyeongyu Oh is still trying to fight to prove his worth at Celtic following his £2.5 million transfer last January.
On Boxing Day, Celtic recorded a deserved 3-0 win over Dundee in what was one of the more dominating displays under Brendan Rodgers this season.
At 1-0, Hyeongyu Oh was introduced into the action to try and kill the game off and seal the points for Celtic, but he lacked the conviction to do so – Mikey Johnston, on the other hand, had the time of his life.
That was touched upon by Chris Sutton on commentary, who noted during one passage of play when Hyeongyu Oh was put through on goal and how he ‘lacked belief’ to make the ball talk, as he told Sky Sports Football (26/12/23 at 4:40 pm).
Look, the 22-year-old is fully aware he isn’t going to start games on a regular basis, which probably doesn’t help matters.
It doesn’t allow him to be as sharp as he wants, it leaves dark clouds over his head and just continues the talk that Celtic might bring in another striker in January.
And the longer Hyeongyu Oh doesn’t showcase that ruthless nature, then the bigger problem it causes the player.
Hyeongyu Oh lacking belief at Celtic
“I think he has to be really positive in that situation, Oh,” said Sutton. “He didn’t have the belief there that he could go past either Dundee defender.
“Try to commit and get a shot off in that situation. You never know.”

Keep the faith in Hyeongyu Oh
Look, if Rodgers is backed by another forward player being added in January, then happy days. The more the merrier.
But keep faith in Oh because the quality is there, he just needs more minutes to prove it.
Look, for a player who plays in a sporadic fashion, it’s not too shabby that he has five goals to his name.
Oh’s issue is that you are playing in the big time and the biggest of pressure cookers, so even a lack of minutes and sharpness isn’t a big enough excuse to not score more goals.
So, these next six months are going to prove to be very, very crucial for him.
