Benjamin Nygren had a superb game for Celtic in the win over Livingston in the Scottish Premiership.

Nygren scored two as Celtic beat Livingston after a stuttering start in Almondvale saw Wilfried Nancy’s side go behind early twice in the opening ten minutes of the match.

The Celtic manager’s side showed its character for the second game in a row as the Bhoys rallied to take a commanding lead into half time at Livingston.

Who stood out for you at half time?

However, after the Swede hit his second goal of the game, BBC pundit Allan Preston made a strange claim about Nygren where he appeared to suggest that the Celtic board should get some credit for signing the midfielder.

Allan Preston says Benjamin Nygren signing vindicates Celtic board

The Parkhead board have always maintained that the manager signs the players at Celtic and that no one, not even them, have a say in that.

That was made clear in Dermot Desmond’s incredible statement on ex-Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers back in October.

But it appears that the board have been vindicated by the signing of Nygren, according to Preston.

Preston said on BBC Scotland, “What a hit. I tell you what, the Celtic board have been criticised for some of their signings.

“You can’t say that about Benjamin Nygren. It was a brilliant finish.

“That’s two players on a hat-trick before half time.”

What Dermot Desmond made abundantly clear in Celtic statement

As previously said, Dermot Desmond made it clear that the board have no say in who the Celtic manager brings in.

In his statement against Rodgers, Desmond said, “His later public statements about transfers and club operations came entirely out of the blue. At no point prior to those remarks had he raised any such concerns with me, Michael, or any member of the Board or executive team.

“In reality, he was given final say over all football matters and was consistently backed in the recruitment process — including record investment in players he personally identified and approved.

“When his comments were made publicly, I sought to address them directly.”

Celtic’s recruitment will undoubtedly come into focus this January as Wilfried Nancy looks to add to the squad to strengthen his bid to defend the title.

The only thing the board will do is offer the Celtic manager the funds to buy the players they want and that’s it, right?
