Celtic are officially Scotland’s most successful club.

Currently on 119 trophies, Brendan Rodgers is looking to seal Celtic’s 121st trophy in their entire history by winning the Scottish Premiership this weekend and then the Scottish Cup against Aberdeen in May.

Rangers languish behind the Hoops after Celtic’s utterly dominant period over the last 25 years.

However, discussing Celtic’s cup record after beating St Johnstone at the weekend, BBC pundit Alan Preston made a claim about Rangers that is sure to anger the Ibrox support.

Alan Preston compares Rangers to St Johnstone and Celtic fans know why

Preston was speaking about the potential of Celtic racking up another treble when he claimed that Scottish football is no longer a two-horse race.

And referencing the Perth club’s domestic cup record being the same as Rangers’ over the last 13 years, Preston says St Johnstone should be regarded as another horse in the race for domestic silverware.

Preston told BBC Radio Sportsound [13m 45s], “That’s what I’m talking about during the half time there or before the game about having a one-horse race. We don’t have it.

“Everyone goes on about a two-horse race. St Johnstone, if that’s the case, if you are classing Rangers as another horse, St Johnstone are a horse as well then.

“At Celtic, the gap is getting bigger and bigger.”

Preston says Scottish football needs to challenge Celtic who are ‘miles away’

With rumours that the San Francisco 49ers are set to takeover Rangers abound, Preston has also urged the rest of Scotland’s big clubs to up their game to challenge Celtic as it’s ‘getting easy’ for the Parkhead club.

Preston continued, “Now Rangers are hoping for investment coming in in the summer.

“We need something in Scottish football. We need Hearts to pick up. We need Aberdeen to stay there.
We need Hibs to improve as well. Celtic need a challenge. They do, they need a challenge.

“Domestically for them, they’re going for another treble. It’s getting easy for them. And that’s the alarming thing.

“Teams will hopefully beat them in cups, but over the course of the 38 league games, Celtic are miles away.”

Celtic fans don’t care. All Celtic fans want to see is more domestic success and progress in Europe. All that has happened this season and the supporters are happy.

With Brendan Rodgers closing in another treble, the Celtic boss will be last one to tell you that Scottish football is ‘getting easy’.
