BBC Sportscene deliver verdict on strange Derek McInnes Celtic claim

Out of all the incidents that happened in yesterday’s game against Celtic, you would think that the Kilmarnock manager, Derek McInnes has more things to worry about than a fictitious red card for Hyeongyu Oh.

The Korean striker was caught up in some post-match controversy when McInnes claimed that Oh should have been sent off for a challenge on Killie defender Liam Donnelly.

I said at the time that although Oh’s boot was high, he doesn’t see Donnelly coming in.

The Celtic striker is completely focused on the ball and despite McInnes’ claim that the defender got a ‘full foot in the face’, the footage from Sky Sports clearly showed that was not the case.

Reviewing the incident, BBC pundit Michael Stewart was giving his verdict on the supposed red card and whilst he understood Derek McInnes’ frustrations, his opinion won’t please the Kilmarnock gaffer.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene, Stewart said, “It’s not a red card but I know why the Kilmarnock players are up in arms. Because obviously, Vassell got sent off against Hibs for something that’s very similar.

“You can see him [Vassell] coming in and demonstrating that fact. It’s not a red card. I don’t think Vassell should have been sent off at Easter Road either but I can understand why Kilmarnock feel upset but it’s not a red card for me.”

He has deflected to this non-story instead of his team’s capitulation against Celtic and it has been effective.

The Kilmarnock manager is coming under increasing pressure as his team sit second bottom, four points from safety. Maybe he should focus his efforts on remedying that.

As for Celtic? Next up is Motherwell at Fir Park where Ange Postecoglou will be looking to pick up another three points in his bid to be crowned champions.
