Fans of English football often ask a bizarre question to Celtic fans:
Do you ever get bored of winning the league and beating Rangers every year?
The truth is that there is only one thing that truly bores fans of Celtic and Scottish football: comparisons to English football.
The question of ‘should Celtic and Rangers join the Premier League?‘ has plagued discourse for decades, despite the proposition never seriously getting off the ground.
The latest to try a nonsense claim was former England goalkeeper Ben Foster, and his response to being called out on his claim was quite something.
Was John Barnes the worst manager you have seen at Celtic?
Ben Foster called out by Alan Brazil on Celtic in the Championship
The question often asks how Celtic would do in the Premier League, England’s top-flight.
But Foster has the audacity to say that they would get relegated from the Championship, in a claim that was even rubbished by English punters.

Speaking on his Fozcast, the ex-Man Utd stopper made the incredible claim that Celtic and their rivals would be relegated from the English Championship.
He went on to say: “Nobody would vote [for them to enter the English pyramid]” because it would “ruin Scottish football”.
“There’s no way on this earth that they’d be allowed to come down here,” Foster said.
“It’d ruin Scottish football for one, but all the teams that are in the Premier League and the Championship are going, ‘Hang on a minute, you want to bring more big boys down here and compete with us and potentially knock us out of the Premier League?’
“From the get-go, they’re going to struggle.”
But on talkSPORT on Friday, speaking to Scottish presenters Alan Brazil and Shebahn Aherne, he admitted to backtracking on the relegation claim.
However, he stood by some of his other nonsense, which was quickly called out.
He said: “I still stand by what I said. I’ll backtrack on the relegated part, but if you put Rangers and Celtic into the Championship today- with the team that Rangers have and the team that Celtic have – today…
“They wouldn’t get relegated, but they’re definitely not getting promoted from the Championship.”
Brazil knocked back the shout, saying “You’re telling me that Celtic and Rangers couldn’t beat the likes of Millwall, Wrexham, teams like that?”
Foster hilariously replied: “Proper teams, you know.”
How would Celtic fare in the Premier League if they were in it?
Celtic’s European performance against English sides
Foster should know better, given that he’ll remember being lobbed by Scott McDonald in a Champions League tie at Celtic Park in 2008.
The Hoops have always upped their game against English opposition. Two years earlier, Shunsuke Nakamura’s iconic free-kicks made a fool out of the great Van Der Sar.
Current Hoops boss Martin O’Neill defeated both Blackburn Rovers and Liverpool on the way to Seville in 2003, defying media derision in both ties.
Celtic’s last European tie against English opposition was a dead-rubber against Aston Villa just over a year ago, when a quickfire Adam Idah double couldn’t prevent a 4-2 defeat in Birmingham.
