Benfica supporters have been left impressed by the performance of Jota for Celtic against La Liga side Real Betis.

The winger, on loan from the Portuguese club, dazzled with some silky skills and a devilish assist during the 4-3 Europa League encounter.

A highlights reel of his individual contributions has been circulating on social media all day and has made its way to Portugal.

Celtic actually have an option to buy on the young talent’s season-long loan, so there’s a chance he never wears a Benfica shirt again. If he settles well in Glasgow and the Bhoys push the boat out on a permanent fee, we could well enjoy him for many years.

There’s a long, long way to go before all that though. First, we need to see if Jota can perform consistently for the Hoops.

The fact he stepped up to play so well last night against quality opposition certainly bodes well. Everyone is very excited to see what he can do against Livingston on Sunday and in more domestic matches ahead.

Some Benfica fans are looking on enviously and comparing him favourably to £18m attacker Everton [Goal], who apparently isn’t impressing a fair few of their supporters.

A quick glance at social media in response to last night’s performance will tell you that.

User @zegalamba said: “He’s playing in the Scottish League and the Europa League, his place is in the Champions League.”

@mama_na_gaita remarked in response to his highlights: “But then it’s Everton that stays here.”

@Pedro_diabo16 said: “Jota is 100x better than Everton.”

@NelsHitch is again keen, saying: “That’s it I believe in him again. 😭😭”

@tiagojsborges blames Benfica with: “He is showing his football to those who give him confidence.”

Meanwhile @maxgalli_ is just happy to see him playing well: “Always good to enjoy the football of Jota Filipe!

Keep it up Jota!
