Benjamin Nygren has opened up on the Celtic fan anger he witnessed after the defeat at Tannadice against Dundee United.

The Celtic midfielder is on international duty with Sweden and was asked about how fans have reacted to him after the weekend scenes, and Nygren answered the question open and honestly.

Nygren played 75 minutes of Celtic’s poor performance at Tannadice and after witnessing the angry fan reaction at full time, the Swedish star said he can understand why the travelling support were upset.

Should Martin O’Neill take some of the blame for the loss to Dundee United?

Benjamin Nygren ‘understands the anger’ from Celtic fans

Celtic now sit five points behind Hearts in the Scottish Premiership table with eight defeats in a campaign that has been one of the worst in living memory, or at the very least since COVID.

And as the title appears to be slipping out of Celtic’s grasp, Nygren told Fotbollskanalen, “The fans I’ve met have been very good and positive, the ones I’ve met on the streets of Glasgow.

“But then I also understand the anger from the fans, when it’s such a big club. They’re used to you winning so many titles every year.

“When you maybe don’t meet the demands that are there, I understand that anger.”

Celtic’s next two fixtures are season-defining

With the top-six split still to come, Celtic’s next two fixtures will become season-defining for Martin O’Neill.

With another trip to Dundee to face Steven Pressley’s side on the cards followed up with a visit of St Mirren, the Celtic boss knows he cannot afford to drop any more points ahead of the split.

Celtic’s title defence may not be dead yet, but anything less than two wins in the next two games could kill it off indefinitely.
