Bernard Higgins won’t be joining Celtic when he leaves Police Scotland at the end of the year, in what will be a major boost to sections of the Hoops support.
A spokesperson for Mr Higgins told The Scottish Sun today: “To address recent speculation, I can confirm that I will not be joining Celtic FC when I retire from the police on 31 December 2021.”
It comes after a large scale campaign from Celtic supporters to stop his potential appointment. It had been rumoured the club were planning to place him in a senior security and safety role at Celtic Park.

However, his involvement in the deployment of the scrapped Offensive Behaviour at Football Act made him a controversial figure for many fans.
Over 250 fan groups, supporters clubs and media outlets signed an open letter to Michael Nicholson outlining their opposition to this mooted plan.
The Green Brigade, Bhoys and other supporters also staged a sit-in protest at Celtic Park, deployed banners and even had two ninety minutes of silence at recent Celtic games.
It’s unclear who the club plan on appointing to this senior role, but hopefully this at least puts an end to this chapter of the acrimony between board and support.
No doubt many fans will have a spring in their step on the way to Hampden today, as they prepare to cheer on the Bhoys in what will hopefully be a magical final.
In other news, Ange’s boyhood hero Kenny Dalglish makes class final prediction; has noticed something about Celtic.
