Big chance for Celtic after rivals blow it at Easter Road

Celtic have a big chance to open an early season points lead over Rangers after Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side drew 2-2 with Hibernian at Easter Road this afternoon.

So far, it’s been pretty even at the top of the Scottish Premiership, with Celtic only edging ahead after three weeks via goal difference.

However, after an enthralling afternoon in Leith, the Ibrox side have dropped points and the Bhoys can move two points clear with a win over Hearts at Celtic Park on Sunday.

It looked like Rangers would cruise to victory after taking the lead twice through a James Tavernier penalty and Tom Lawrence header, cancelling out a fine Martin Boyle effort.

However, red cards for John Lundstram and Alfredo Morelos in the second half gave Hibs the advantage they needed to equalise from a goal deficit.

In the end, it was a stunning goal from Josh Campbell that resulted in the draw, dramatically scoring from range in injury time.

Celtic host Hearts tomorrow in this context, knowing a victory carries even more meaning.

Ange Postecoglou often stresses it doesn’t matter what opponents do, but there’s no denying this is an early chance to assert dominance at the top of the table.

It was certainly an amusing, entertaining watch regardless of the result tomorrow, with Rangers looking far from convincing against Lee Johnson’s outfit.

With a derby coming in just a couple of weeks, Celtic will be relishing the opportunity to test themselves against last year’s runners-up in front of a sold-out Paradise.
