Big David Turnbull decision looming at Celtic after week of speculation

While speculative links between AC Milan and Celtic midfielder David Turnbull are reported to be wide of the mark, a decision on his future is looming.

The Herald reports that the player is considering his future with his contract due to expire at the Bhoys at the end of the season.

However, rumours from Italy that Serie A side Milan could come in for Turnbull are said to be purely speculation, rather than something that is in the offing.

The midfielder, who has netted seven goals in all competitions for Celtic this season, is free to sign a pre-contract with any club in January.

David Turnbull still has a Celtic option available

Manager Brendan Rodgers has previously indicated there is a deal on the table for him to sign and that he’d like the former Motherwell man to stay.

However, Turnbull is on the bench as often as he is in the starting eleven so he may well determine his future is best served a club he can play more regularly with.

Ideally, Celtic will have a firm idea of his plans heading into January rather than being caught by surprise with a pre-contract signing elsewhere.

The upcoming window will be the last chance for the Bhoys to recoup any sort of transfer fee for the player if he doesn’t intend to extend his Celtic career. He signed from the Steelmen for a reported fee of £3.25m in 2020.

It’s become clear that Turnbull isn’t considered by the manager to be a starter at a higher European level. Rodgers has preferred Paulo Bernardo and Odin Holm in the Champions League this term despite handing Turnbull chances in the Scottish Premiership.

He does possess a goal threat and that can be useful domestically, but it may be best for all parties to head down different paths in the quest for improvement.
