Bitter Aberdeen can’t stop complaining about Celtic victory; now they’ve found a new incident

Celtic’s unbeaten run in the Scottish Premiership stretched to 20 on Wednesday night and all we’ve heard in the aftermath is the complaints of pundits and Aberdeen personnel about how unfair it all is.

A fuming Stephen Glass got the ball rolling on Wednesday night, but the mad analysis has continued for days with pundits weighing in on the Aberdeen side, as well as a former SPFL referee.

Now Lewis Ferguson is in today’s papers keeping it all going and he’s even found a new incident to fume about – he thinks they should’ve had a penalty.

Speaking to The Glasgow Times, he is adamant his team deserved a draw: “We were excellent in the second half and deserved a point. To get done by a goal like that, where it looks as if he is offside and there is a foul on Bates, it’s harsh on the boys.”

First of all, Abada was neither offside nor unfairly impeded the Aberdeen defence so that is nonsense. But the delusion doesn’t stop there.

Ferguson said he was fouled in the box and should have earned a spot-kick in the second half: “I felt as if the boy [Matt O’Riley] wasn’t really looking at the ball or making an attempt to play the ball. I think he was just trying to put his body into me.

“I think if it’s anywhere else on the park it is probably a foul. In the penalty area, it’s not a foul – it’s one of those ones. I thought at the time he wasn’t making an attempt to play the ball and was purely focusing on me. That’s why I asked the question to Willie.”

If you’re confused about what that’s even in reference to, it’s from a nothing moment when a high ball was played to far side of the Celtic box, O’Riley jumps but doesn’t even make contact with Ferguson. It’s not a penalty.

I know Aberdeen feel hard done by because they battled back into the game so well, only to lose. But it’s absurd to suggest they deserved a point.

Celtic dominated the game both in terms of possession and chances created. If anything, Aberdeen were lucky to make it a contest.

But that apparently won’t stop all the whining.
