Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic side reached an impressive milestone on Saturday afternoon, scoring their 200th goal of the 57-year-old’s tenure.
Celtic skipper Callum McGregor was on hand to score the important goal, which became a landmark moment of Postecoglou’s time in Glasgow.
Since his arrival at Parkhead in the summer of 2021, the Celtic boss has continued to build his side, with the supporters loving to watch his attacking style of play.
It arguably wouldn’t have come as much of a surprise to fans, given some of the performances this Celtic side has put on in front of goal.
We have watched many teams, whether that be at Celtic Park or on the road, suffer heavy defeats, with the biggest coming earlier this year in a 9-0 win over Dundee United.
Of course, we have also seen Postecoglou’s side involved in some closely contested matches. However, the impressive thing about this team is their ability to always find a way to goal.
As coincidence has it, the Bhoys have scored 100 goals and home and the other 100 away, showcasing the balance the former Socceroos boss has struck with his team’s performances in attack.
At 67 Hail Hail, we decided to take a look at which players contributed the most to all 200 goals, as the Hoops now look towards heading for the next milestone.
Which Celtic stars contributed most to reaching the 200-goal landmark?
Rather unsurprisingly, it is the two Celtic strikers who top the goalscoring charts, with Kyogo Furuhashi (31) and Giorgos Giakoumakis (25) leading the way.
Both players have contributed massively in front of goal, scoring over 50 times combined since joining in the summer, which has massively helped during the early rebuilding period.
A familiar pattern follows the two frontmen, and I am sure supporters won’t be surprised to hear that wingers Liel Abada (24), Jota (20) and Daizen Maeda follow (12).
A key attribute of Ange Postecoglou’s system is wide players getting into goal-scoring positions, and these three have become experts at this.
As you can see, when we go down the list, the likes of David Turnbull (12), James Forrest (9) and Callum McGregor (6) have all contributed, showing how the goals spread right through the side.
This can be said for the defence players, too, with all four senior centre-backs grabbing a goal over the last 18 months. Again, it exhibits the variance in the Hoops’ abilities to score goals.
There are also old favourites amongst this list, with Tom Rogic (6) very much playing his part in the Hoops trophy success last campaign.
It might be easy to forget, but the likes of Odsonne Edouard (3) and Ryan Christie (1) also scored under the former Socceroos boss at the beginning of his period in charge.
I am sure there are some more names that will have slipped all of our minds, including members of the squad who now play their football elsewhere, such as Ewan Henderson (1), whose only strike came against Real Betis.
We also took a look at which teams the most strikes came against, with the Hoops clearly enjoying fixtures against the likes of Dundee United (22) and Motherwell (21).
However, it is impressive spread across the majority of teams we have faced in domestic and European competition.
Going into Saturday’s fixture against Aberdeen, I highly doubt the Celtic squad and coaching staff would have been aware of the landmark they could reach at Pittodrie.
Ange’s reaction to the feat whilst speaking to Sky said it all, his team scores goals, and it arguably won’t come as a surprise to him.
However, to us Celtic supporters, it is an impressive feat to reach during his 18 months in charge, and we have all enjoyed watching this team’s attacking football.
Of course, we maybe could have reached the milestone a little earlier…but we will let the squad off with it as long as we get to 300 in style.
Tonight the Bhoys will be aiming to kick-start their run to another goalscoring milestone against Livingston, and I am sure they will be adding plenty of goals to their tally in the second half of the season.
