Celtic’s summer 2025 window was widely built up as crucial.
After the sale of Kyogo Furuhashi in January, no replacement striker was incoming, leaving Brendan Rodgers with a clear priority ahead of the current season.
The exit of Nicolas Kuhn to Como shortly after further complicated things, and left the Hoops with obvious gaps in their attack.
Rodgers was not shy about the urgency with which he wanted these filled. In fact, on several occasions, he made his demands public.
But after a tumultuous end to the transfer window, things were clearly not what he would’ve liked – and now addressing the window to the media, he has been brutally honest.
Transfer window was not what Celtic wanted, says Brendan Rodgers
When your manager goes on record with what he wants from the club’s transfer business, there is no hiding when it doesn’t happen.

Having still welcomed new faces to the squad, he was keen to maintain a forward momentum internally.
Rodgers said: “I’m glad the window is shut. There’s been a lot of uncertainty and instability; we accept it could have been better for us but now it’s behind us.
“My job as manager is to pull everything together and to get us moving again.
“We have to accept and take responsibility that the window wasn’t what we wanted. I believe we have talented players in the squad. It is what it is, you can’t look back on it now.”
Come Sunday, it will be impossible to ignore given impending fan protests.
Celtic’s new signings have to make an instant impact
Michel-Ange Balikwisha’s debut against Rangers was symptomatic of the way the game was played – uneventful.
However, with Rodgers looking to build momentum, the form of his new signings will be crucial in the coming weeks.
Sebastian Tounekti has earned rave reviews in Sweden ahead of his move to Glasgow, and qualified for the World Cup with Tunisia over the international break.
Both they and Kelechi Iheanacho will have big parts to play from the off as Rodgers steers his squad towards autumn and winter fixtures.
