Brendan Rodgers is a master of communication.

When it comes to any media briefing, The Celtic manager may not always be totally honest, but he never rushes his words.

So after a much-maligned transfer window which has led to an open letter sent to the Celtic board, fans were keen to hear what the manager had to say almost two weeks on.

The letter led to a controversial Celtic statement last weekend. In it, the club pointed to a number of reasons why certain deals weren’t done – but this was perceived by many as a lack of responsibility.

With protests now planned at the upcoming match against Kilmarnock, the Hoops boss has now had his say on supporter sentiment.

Brendan Rodgers says he shares frustration of Celtic fans

Many Celtic fans have pointed at Rodgers as a reason for their frustration at the club – he is less likely to stay at the club if not backed in the market.

Speaking on whether he understood supporters’ sentiment, he said: “Absolutely. We are all frustrated. You respect the fans of your club. It’s why we love Celtic and the Celtic support. They keep us honest, they keep us pushing and driving.

“I’m not here to tell supporters how to feel. I know it, I feel it because I grew up with it, I know what the demands are – supporters want to see the club develop not just domestically, we have to be looking to perform better in Europe.

“The quality of your life is the quality of your communication. After this summer that is something the club will most definitely look at. My thoughts are purely on getting the team back to playing with our identity.”

Fans taking part in Sunday’s protest can now take part whilst knowing that the man in charge is not in opposition to their actions.

Celtic support will still be crucial after Sunday’s protest

The planned protest for the match at Rugby Park will see many fans not present in the opening 12 minutes of the match, to represent their role as the 12th man.

However, once inside the ground, participants have said they will support the players ‘vigorously.’

This makes one thing clear – that fans do not want events off the pitch to change their support of the players on it.

The impact that Sunday’s protests have on the spectacle of the match as a whole remains to be seen.
