The Celtic 2023 AGM is underway and after a review of the last calendar year with video packages and the passage of routine resolutions, questions are now being taken from the floor.
Today’s event kicked off at 11:30am and senior figures at the club are in attendance including Chief Executive Michael Nicholson, chairman Peter Lawwell and first-team manager Brendan Rodgers.
One of the topics that came up was the club’s strategy to qualify out of a UEFA Champions League group, which hasn’t been achieved since Rodgers’ first spell in charge of the club.
The Bhoys boss responded with acknowledgement that his first-team squad is currently too large and that he would be looking to address that over the next two transfer windows.
Celtic pledge action in January transfer window
Rodgers also reiterated his desire to add quality to his squad, which he has made publicly clear in several interviews previously.
He said at the AGM [Scottish Sun]: “We have a squad that’s bigger than what we want but that’s something in the next two transfer windows we will have the numbers and quality we really want.
“In terms of the Champions League, we have been really competitive other than the second half in the Atletico game.”
Earlier, in a video package, Michael Nicholson pledged that there would be further investment in the first-team squad during the January transfer window.

Ultimately Celtic fans will judge the club’s stance on all this at the end of the upcoming window. After a sluggish summer that felt full of promise, supporters want to see actions, not words from the champions.
However, it is encouraging messaging from the senior figures and bodes well for Celtic making crowd-pleasing transfers over the next few months.
Hopefully the board can deliver on the kind of target Rodgers wants to see added to his squad.
