Celtic have a number of international-class players at their disposal right now.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has the likes of Belgian Arne Engels, Americans Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty and also the Republic of Ireland’s Liam Scales, to name but a few.
However, there are Celtic first-team players at the club who have yet to be picked for their country, such as Hyunjun Yang, Jota and Maik Nawrocki, who have yet to experience any international football in their careers.
However, it’s within Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad that one Hoops star has been told that he’s found himself unfortunate not to be selected to face Greece in the next international window.

Celtic midfielder Luke McCowan ‘unlucky’ not to get Scotland call
Discussing Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad, pundit Gordon Dalziel has said that whilst he understood why Luke McCowan was not given the nod by the national manager, the Celtic midfielder is unfortunate not to have the chance to win his first international cap.
Dalziel told Superscoreboard [37m], “I totally agree. I agree that since he’s come into Celtic, every time he’s come on the pitch, fans love what they’re seeing. He’s been very good, indeed.
“He’s been a good signing for, what was that, a million quid or something? So you can’t argue with that. But probably every Celtic fan would say, ‘No, he has to be in the squad because what he does’.
“Then if you’re not with Celtic, you’re looking outside and think, right, who does he replace? Because there are only so many that you can take into the midfield And that’s a difficult question.
“Who do you replace in there? I think that’s where the strongest part of the team is. He’s a bit unlucky for me in that he plays in the midfield. But I didn’t look at that squad today and go, ‘Oh, I can’t believe Clarke has left out McCowan.”
Three Celtic games that should have earned Luke McCowan Scotland call-up
Many of McCowan’s Celtic appearances have been from the bench, however, the former Dundee captain has made 31 appearances in the green and white Hoops.
Of those appearances, McCowan has scored six goals and created six, so here are three games alone that should have earned the Celtic midfielder a call-up.
- Celtic 5 v 0 Ross County. McCowan scores one and creates a hat trick of assists as he ran riot in the Parkhead win.
- Celtic 3 v 0 Hibs. McCowan created two chances, had three shots on goal and had a passing accuracy of 90% in a 73-minute midfield masterclass.
- Celtic 3 v 0 Dundee United. Another great performance from McCowan saw the Celtic midfielder press and contain the Tannadice midfield as he created three chances and had two shots on goal with a 93% passing accuracy.
