Brendan Rodgers clears up Alex Valle ‘rumours’ as Celtic loanee continues to establish himself

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers addressed rumours surrounding Alex Valle yesterday in his pre-Kilmarnock press conference.

The La Masia graduate joined the Bhoys on a season-long loan in the summer and has went on to make a notable impression at Parkhead.

Despite vying for a place with Greg Taylor at left-back, Alex Valle has made nine appearances for Celtic across all competitions, registering three assists in total.

Earlier this week, news emerged that Barcelona have been impressed with Valle’s progress while at Parkhead, with eyes reported to be on his situation ahead of next summer.

Now, Brendan Rodgers has responded to some recent noise surrounding the youngster as he continues to excel in Glasgow.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Rodgers made it clear that he hasn’t heard anything about Barcelona potentially recalling Valle from his loan spell despite murmurs the La Liga giants could look to cut his time short among Spanish media circles.

He explained: “Not that I’m aware of, no. Nobody has told me any different. I suppose we are getting close to the stage where rumours and gossip and everything kicks in leading into January.

“I know that Alex has really enjoyed his time here, and both on and off the pitch, he’s obviously a very important player for us. So, we wouldn’t want to lose him.

“I think the experience that he’s getting here, both in the Champions League and domestic football, he’s really enjoying his time here.”

Alex Valle won’t be going anywhere

While media outlets need to report stories that will sell, it seems Valle won’t be going anywhere, and his primary focus will be nailing down a first-team slot at Celtc over the coming months.

Coming in at 20 years old, the Spain Under-19 cap has had no problem adjusting to life on Scottish soil, showing excellent maturity and a desire to support the attack from the left flank.

Continuing his development in ideal surroundings, Valle is gaining valuable experience at Celtic and is growing in stature on the pitch, something that can hopefully continue across his spell at the club.
