Brendan Rodgers has criticised the Celtic insider who made claims against the Northern Irishman.

A report from The Scottish Sun last week delivered quotes from a source inside Parkhead which said Rodgers was engineering an exit from the club.

Moreover, the source was quoted saying that Rodgers had torn the club apart and that Celtic Park chiefs were deeply unhappy with him.

What the Celtic insider source said about Rodgers

The Scottish Sun printed these quotes from the source: “Senior figures inside the club believe Rodgers is engineering his exit.

“What he’s said in public has torn the club apart. On and off the record discussions are creating division throughout the club.

“He’s the only manager in the club’s history who has repeatedly questioned things. It’s been the same board, same management and same strategy. The club have spent tens of millions.

“When Brendan came back, he agreed to the club’s strategy. There are now people inside the club who are deeply unhappy with his words.

“To make matters worse, these issues appear to be seeping into the performance of the team. It’s like Groundhog Day again.”

Rodgers responds to ‘cowardly action’

Now, Rodgers has responded directly to these claims. The Celtic manager has blasted the ‘cowardly action’ and wasn’t surprised by the report.

He said at his pre-Kilmarnock press conference: “It was interesting when I was shown that. My honest take? I thought it was a cowardly action from whoever it is.

“Was I surprised by it? Not really. I was briefed upon the last time I was here, when I left, and now that I’ve come back.”

Asked if he knew who the Celtic insider was, Rodgers simply responded: “No.”

Later in the presser, Rodgers was pressed on the subject matter again, with a reporter asking if the club should launch an investigation.

The Celtic gaffer replied: “I don’t think there’s any doubt. If you are sitting where I am with the weight I have on my shoulders, it’s so important to feel supported. Whoever is briefing, they can come here and speak to me at any time.

“We all will have frustrations at times in our life, but I would never think of going and bringing that to the fore to hurt someone else. Especially someone who didn’t have to come back but wanted to come back.”
