Celtic’s pursuit of talent in the Asian markets and beyond has been very successful over the last two seasons. With the arrival of Brendan Rodgers, the school of thought may well have been that that avenue may well close.
But after the business that has been concluded so far this summer, Celtic’s strategy of dipping into the Asian market is not going away.
With many of Celtic’s new signings being completed so quickly after Brendan Rodgers‘ arrival this summer, the Celtic manager moved to explain the process behind the recruitment drive. A
And whilst he admits that some of the players that have arrived were identified before he came to Celtic, ultimately the final decision on whether they come to the club rests with him.

Rodgers said [Sky Sports], “From players that have come in here over the last couple of years, Mark Lawwell, who’s head of the recruitment team here has done a fantastic job.
“It’s a market he knows really very well from his previous job. So he understands the players but he’s also got a very good team of people behind him. So I trust in their work, of course, they will always be put forward to me and I’ll have a look at it.
“But yeah, some of those players were identified before I came in. So it was about giving the blessing and some of them were identified whilst I have been in.

“So it’s just a continuation of working together, which is important. And like I say, part of coming back as I know the club as I know the model is in place and we hope that we can maximise that and then develop the players on the field.”
The Celtic manager has already stated that he is looking to add more faces to the squad this summer. It will be interesting to see which positions he is looking to strengthen and which markets the new faces come from.
But one thing is for sure, after listening to Rodgers’ comments here, there is no dubiety about who has the last say on the signings and that Celtic does have a well-oiled recruitment machine working in the background.
